Welcome

Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan

at the S.B.A.K.

of the Municipality of Marathon

The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) is a strategic plan
designed to meet the mobility needs
of people and businesses in cities and their surrounding areas
for a better quality of life.

Vision and Goals of the SBAK

The vision of the SBAK is to create a sustainable urban transportation system for:

  • Improving traffic and public transportation services for citizens.

  • Promoting entrepreneurship in the municipality by improving access.

  • Developing municipal services in a friendly and people-centered environment and supporting these services with high-quality public transportation. Particular emphasis must be placed on the key pillars of sustainable mobility. These are public transportation, walking, and cycling, with the design of corresponding networks that provide a high level of service and accessibility for people with disabilities.

  • Implementation of management measures and initiatives to encourage the use of public transportation, bicycles, or walking, and to discourage the use of private vehicles for daily commutes.

  • Application of modern methods and strategies to meet transportation needs, with an emphasis on increasing the degree of complementarity among modes of transportation.

The consultation process, specifically in the case of the SBAC, is called upon to fulfill a dual role, which consists of:

  • A. To inform, educate, and raise awareness among citizens and municipal officials regarding the vision of Sustainable Urban Mobility

  • B.Gathering the views and concerns of citizens and officials as part of the consultation process itself, regarding the proposals to be submitted by the Study Group.

Citizen Participation

As part of the development of the “Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) for the Municipality of Marathon,” a study is being conducted to assess travel demand throughout the municipality. The results of the survey will be used to design a comprehensive proposal that will promote the balanced development of all modes of transportation while encouraging a shift toward alternative modes of travel.

The goal is to effectively manage traffic and parking,
in order to create a “smart” and “sustainable” European city.
